100 Fruit Trees Challenge
100 Fruit Trees Challenge (2026)
The 100 Fruit Trees project supported residents across Alwoodley to establish their own garden orchards at an affordable cost. Working in partnership with Fruitworks, our local fruit‑tree co‑operative, we offered high‑quality fruit trees at a discounted rate to encourage wider planting and long‑term community resilience. The initiative aimed to make orchard growing accessible to households of all sizes, helping people introduce productive, wildlife‑friendly trees into their gardens. By distributing a large number of trees in a single coordinated effort, the project strengthened local biodiversity, increased future food‑growing potential and inspired residents to take part in community‑led planting and urban orchard development. The model is designed to be repeated, supporting the gradual creation of a network of fruit‑bearing trees across Alwoodley.
