Warmer Homes Programme

In Winter 2025, our Low Carbon Homes leaders, volunteers Sarann Dean and Liz Watson, organised a three-part workshop series designed to help residents reduce draughts, cut energy costs, and create warmer, more comfortable homes.

One cohort took place at St Barnabas Church, while the other was hosted by Room 17 at Allerton CE Primary School.

For several years, we had offered talks on energy saving and home improvement at venues throughout Alwoodley. This time, the team brought the sessions directly to local groups—embracing a spirit of learning together and building collective empowerment.  The idea was that, by working as a community and providing ongoing support, participants would be more likely to make lasting improvements to their homes, save money, reduce carbon, and enjoy cosier living spaces.

Special thanks go to Naomi Cohen for her invaluable help with administration, Bev Yu from St Barnabas Church for coordinating on her end, and Caroline Elliot from Room 17 at Allerton CE Primary School for hosting their respective sessions. And a massive thank-you to Sarann and Liz for their incredible leadership—designing and delivering a three-part series for two cohorts is a huge achievement. We’re so grateful for their many hours of volunteering, driven by passion for our community and a more sustainable future.

This project was funded by Alwoodley Parish Council, with ongoing support from the National Lottery Community Fund—whose contributions continue to make local, community-led climate action possible.
