Bio-Blitz Day

Bio-Blitz Day

We’re encouraging nature-friendly gardening and the development of nature-corridors all across Alwoodley, and espeically along our first target wildflower corridor! But how will we know if our individual efforts make a difference to wildlife? Let’s bio-blitz!  On one afternoon we invite you to take part in part or all of the following bio-blitz activities.

Bio-Blitz Instructions

  1. Download the iNaturalist app on your smart phone or iPad.

  2. Follow instructions to set up your account.  Make sure you tick the box that allows scientists to use your observations!

  3. Watch this video that explains what a bioblitz is.

  4. Choose one spot to observe for one hour. For those who have participated in creating a one-metre wildflower patch, please observe that patch for the designated hour on 7th June.

  5. Open the app and make your first observation.

  6. Our aim is to increase our nature observations in our residential areas! So, please make 10 observations in your own garden or along your own street. You’re welcome to make observations in parks and green spaces as well, but this blitz is focused on understanding biodiversity right where we live.

  7. Let us know you’ve completed your observations using this very quick form.  This is very, very helpful for us to track participation and evaluate our approach. It will also help us demonstrate with funders that we are engaging the community. Thank you!
